Kirtan for Cause: A fundraiser for START Rescue!

Join Hannah and Bryn, friends and Kirtan musicians based in Santa Cruz, for a special benefit Kirtan as we fundraise for START Rescue! START transports animals facing euthansia in overcrowded shelters to regions with shelter space to offer, saving lives and giving animals the second chance they deserve. As animal lovers with rescued companions, it means a lot to us to be able to do something we love—chanting and bringing people together—to support animals in need.

His unique kirtan is known for its tender, authentic, and introspective quality, igniting an experience of profound healing and a genuine sense of community connection. Although we dig all the way down to the bottom of our hearts, we never take ourselves too seriously, and the entire event unfolds with an effortless lightness of being, and a childlike spirit of wonder.

Join Govind Das in the uplifting and heart opening practice of Kirtan. Kirtan is an ancient bhakti yoga practice using mantra and music as an expression of devotion and prayer. The literal translation of kirtan is "to praise." Kirtan is described as a "jewel of a spiritual practice" because of its joyful, open-hearted, meditative, and communal feeling. Come sing, dance, and enjoy spiritual community. For the new people to kirtan/chanting, just bring yourself, no special clothes or yoga mat needed.

We invite you to explore the heart-opening practice of Bhakti Yoga and enjoy an inspiring evening of community and Kirtan. Kirtan is not a performance, but a collective group offering. Together we will use our voices to participate in this uplifting and cathartic experience of chanting mantras.

No yoga mat is needed. The studio will provide props (blankets and bolsters). No singing or chanting experience is necessary.

Option to bring an offering for the altar (candles, murtis, flowers, crystals, photos, feathers, trinkets and other treasures).

Come as you are with an open mind and an open heart, and feel the benefits and healing power of Kirtan!
