Intro to Chanting with Hannah Lerch

Come explore the heart opening practice of Bhakti Yoga with an inspiring evening of chanting mantra, storytelling, and community. In this workshop we’ll discuss chanting, what it is and where it comes from, and the many benefits of chanting mantras. We’ll dive into some of the lore and mythology of Hindu deities and how these stories may manifest in our everyday lives. And of course, we’ll chant!

Kirtan is not a performance, but a shared prayer — an experience we create together. Everyone is invited to participate, and together we build a collective energy rooted in presence and connection. Through this practice, we cultivate a deep, loving, devotional, and gratitude-based relationship with the divine — however you understand it. This may be a specific deity, God, Mother Nature, the universe, or the sacred presence that lives within each of us.

No music, singing, or chanting experience is necessary.
No yoga mat is needed. The yoga studio will provide props (blankets, blocks, and bolsters).
Wear anything comfortable and bring a water bottle :)

Join us for a night of heart centered call and response chanting of the Music of Yoga with special guest Johanna Beekman, a long time studio favorite and friend! Johanna’s love of singing and songwriting led her on a journey through a wide variety of styles—soul, gospel, folk, pop, rock, world beat, reggae, a cappella, jazz, dance, and more. Today her performances and recordings are generally grounded in kirtan—the music of yoga—and other forms of conscious music. But Johanna incorporates the most compelling elements of all of those styles into her songs no matter what she’s singing. And above all else, her spirit shines bright in every note. Come chant, meditate, pray, sing, and open your hearts together in an evening of devotion. All voices welcomed!

We invite you to explore the heart-opening practice of Bhakti Yoga and enjoy an inspiring evening of community and Kirtan. Kirtan is not a performance, but a collective group offering. Together we will use our voices to participate in this uplifting and cathartic experience of chanting mantras.

No yoga mat is needed. The studio will provide props (blankets and bolsters). No singing or chanting experience is necessary.

Option to bring an offering for the altar (candles, murtis, flowers, crystals, photos, feathers, trinkets and other treasures).

Come as you are with an open mind and an open heart, and feel the benefits and healing power of Kirtan!
